You do not have to read all the comments but read at least the blog post.

Address the topic while expressing yourself in your comment. If the blog owner have to sift through the comments, they see the title of the blog post and your comment - if it does not relate it is likely to be marked as spam.

How To Comment Rule 6:
Write at least 50 words.
How To Comment Rule 7:
Get a Gravatar. A faceless comment does not feature and is so very much looking like the spam as spammers not usually use a gravat email in their comment spamming efforts.
Comment Link:
The comment link that the commentor get to fill in at the comment form, is to link his or her name back to their website. The comment link is also used by the comment luv plugin to check for a blog feed and to use that as an extra deeplinking bonus for the commentor. Comment links are preferred to be handled with the keyword luv plugin. If you then have a wordpress blog be sure to see if you can install the keywordluv plugin for your website visitors.
